Day 77 - 12/25/18
Updated: Jan 23, 2019
Ahhhh… Christmas day has arrived. Yayyyyy!!!
I’m always excited about Christmas because I get to somewhat spoil my children—as much as I can. When I was a single parent, it was a struggle to buy “extras” for them throughout the year, so I always went above and beyond during Christmas. This habit has not changed with my younger children. And now, more than ever, I am trying to give more love than material things. Material items will only last as long as interest in the item last, but love will last a lifetime.
As I am cherishing the “small” moments in life now, I have an added sense of delight watching them open their gifts. I’ve taught them from young ages that Christmas is about giving, and it’s about the thought that counts. Their delight in their gifts mean so much to me, and I cherish these types of moments.
Since we were up at 6 am, I had to take a nap before we visited with family for Christmas dinner. Since I’m still fighting with my taste buds, I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to taste any of the food. For the most part, I was able to taste most of it, but most important, I was able to taste the dressing—which is my favorite. Thank you to Aunt Jewel who always makes the best dressing! :)
It felt good to be around family. Since I don’t get out much now, I didn’t realize how much I miss just hanging out and loving on each other. It was only for a couple of hours, but this little bit of time meant so much! Even though it wasn’t a lot of activity, I felt completely drained and had to rest immediately upon returning home. It was well worth it.
My takeaway from today is… enjoy life… enjoy family… remember the reason for the season…
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9: 6 KJV
